Key takeaways

Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) take heat from the air outside and use it to warm your home and hot water. It can even pull warmth from cold air and do so effectively, which is why it can be such a smart alternative to traditional gas or electric heating. It functions as a fridge in reverse: rather than extracting heat, it gathers and amplifies it to a proper temperature for the home.

There’s a rise in the use of air source heat pumps in Scotland. In fact, the cooler, damper climate can actually favour the performance of contemporary heat pumps, which are designed to work effectively in moderate cold. And the Scottish Government is encouraging new households to move to low-carbon heating systems by making grants and incentives available to them. Long-term, a heat pump can help offset your home energy bills, making it an investment in comfort and sustainability.

Here’s your ultimate 2026 guide to air source heat pumps in Scotland. We’ll tell you how they work, how much the systems cost, what grants are available and how to find a reputable installer. You’ll have a point on the board to help you decide whether an air source heat pump is the right fit for your house.

How Does an Air Source Heat Pump Work?

Modern air source heat pump installed outside a home in Scotland

At its heart, how an air source heat pump works is really quite simple. It sucks heat out of the outside air, even at temperatures in the 0s on Scottish winter days, and uses it to heat your home and hot water. Think of it as a super-efficient heater that takes energy from the environment, rather than burning fuel.

The basic system is this: outside air is sucked into the system and runs over a refrigerant in the coils of the heat pump. This refrigerant has an extremely low boiling point; however, at atmospheric pressure, it warms up and evaporates into a gas. This gas is then compressed by the heat pump, increasing its temperature even more. Finally, your home’s radiators, underfloor heating or hot water system absorb the heat. The gas then cools, becomes a liquid again, and the process repeats.

Today’s air source heat pumps are cool, and they are smart. Other models automatically compensate for changes in the outdoor temperature and your home’s heating requirements. Depending on how and where you install them, they can conveniently free-stand beside existing heating sources or replace them altogether.

One of the key benefits is that they work based on cycling electricity to move heat, rather than generating heat, which makes them more energy-efficient than standard electric heaters. For each unit of electricity that they consume, they can produce several units of heat, thus lowering their energy bills. In Scotland, this is particularly beneficial in the winter months when good heating makes a difference to comfort as well as expenses.

If you’re more visually inclined, imagine it as a giant sponge: the pump “squeezes” heat from the outdoor air and releases it within your home. The mechanics are sophisticated, but the idea is simple.

Air Source Heat Pumps in Winter: How They Perform in Scotland’s Climate

Air source heat pump installer in Scotland with Vaillant outdoor unit

There is a myth that air source heat pumps do not perform well in the cold winters in Scotland. This simply isn’t true. As it happens, air source heat pumps are built to pull heat out of the outdoor air, even when it plummets far below freezing.

Designed for Cold Climates

Scotland’s winter can become moderately chilly as the frost temperatures get close to 0°C during the winter months, with places such as Edinburgh experiencing an average of -3.2°C in December. Notwithstanding this, ASHPs still perform effectively. They contain refrigerant that evaporates at low temperatures, using the surrounding air to cool the refrigerant as it turns from liquid to gas.

Efficiency in the Cold

Although air source heat pumps will use more electricity in the winter, they deliver substantial reductions compared to conventional gas boilers. They can take the heat from the air and bring it into your home, providing more heat than the electricity they consume, so they’re an energy-efficient option, even in winter.

Real-World Performance

Many Scots have used air source heat pumps throughout, even in the coldest depths of winter. One example of this is a Highlands resident who found their air source heat pump kept their home snug during a particularly cold winter, when temperatures fell to -11°C.

To sum up, air source heat pumps really are practical and efficient, even throughout the harsh winters of Scotland. If you’re thinking of installing an air source heat pump for your home, though, it’s important that it is installed and maintained for optimum performance, which is how we approach every installation as air source heat pump installers in Scotland.

Air Source Heat Pump Costs in Scotland

Air source heat pump installed in a Scottish home garden

So, one of the first things that homeowners ask us is “how much is an air source heat pump in Scotland?” The response is dependent on several key factors, but once you understand the installation and the running costs, you can plan appropriately for the future.

Installation Costs

How much does it cost to install an air source heat pump? An air source heat pump is generally installed at a cost of £8,000 to £15,000. The size of that range boils down to factors like the type of system you choose (forced-air, radiant, or geothermal), the size of your home, and the complexity of your installation. For instance, an air-to-water system that provides power to radiators and hot water generally costs more than a simpler air-to-air system that only heats the air. Older properties may require additional work, such as improved insulation or larger radiators, which can add to the cost.

What Affects the Price?

A few factors determine how much you will spend on your heat pump:

  • Property size: Larger homes require more powerful systems.
  • Insulation: If your home is well insulated, you may need a much smaller and cheaper system.
  • Radiators or underfloor heating: Bigger radiators or underfloor heating are best suited to low-temperature systems, though they will make the initial installation more expensive.
  • Brand and quality: The bigger brands can cost more, but they generally last longer and have better warranties.

And don’t forget that grants and subsidies are available from the Scottish government to help you keep the upfront cost down. Doing some research on current schemes before installing can save a lot of time.

Running Costs vs Installation Costs

After installation, an air source heat pump is cheaper to run than the majority of electric space heaters. On average, Scottish householders pay between £850 and £1,700 a year for electricity to warm their homes, the cost depending on the size and efficiency of the house. Although that’s not negotiable, it’s less than running an older electric or oil system.

Payback and Savings

The combination of energy savings and government incentives can make an air source heat pump a smart long-term investment. Typical savings on energy bills are around £250-£300 a year, which means the system usually pays for itself in about 14 years. After that, you continue to enjoy lower heating costs while reducing your home’s carbon footprint.

Worried About the Cost of Switching?

We’ll design a system that matches your budget, maximises your access to Scottish grants, and ensures lifetime efficiency. Full 2026 figures by home size and tariff, before and after the grant, are in our air source heat pump cost guide .

Heat Pump Grants & Funding in Scotland

Close up of air source heat pump unit in Scotland with connected pipework

Putting in an air source heat pump in Scotland might seem like a significant initial outlay, but the good news is that there are lots of ways to get support to help you pay for the cost. There are a number of grants and help available to help lower the cost of adopting a low-carbon heat solution.

Home Energy Scotland Heat Pump Grant

The most significant government-funded scheme is the Home Energy Scotland Heat Pump Grant. It provides homeowners with up to £7,500 toward a new heat pump. If you live in a rural area, you could even qualify for an additional £1,500, bringing the total to £9,000. It is available to people who own and occupy an existing home in Scotland and can significantly reduce the cost of installation.

You’ll also need a certified installer and a few key documents to apply, such as quotes for the work you’ll have done and proof that you own the property. It starts with a call to Home Energy Scotland, which will walk you through the application and ensure your home qualifies.

Additional Support Options

If the grant won’t pay the entire cost, you can take out an interest-free loan for up to £7,500, which you will have to repay over 10 years. This can assist in spreading the cost of installation, which can reduce some of the financial burden.

There may also be additional funding available from the Warmer Homes Scotland Programme for households struggling to pay energy bills or living in older homes that could benefit from upgrades. The fund schemes help fund energy efficiency upgrades, such as heat pumps, for homeowners, private renters and private landlords.

Certain energy providers, such as Octopus Energy, even offer access to the government heat pump grant and other benefits, such as long-term warranties or installation help. Bringing these efforts together can make the heat pump switch much more manageable.

Getting Help

Even the process of applying for grants and loans can seem mystifying. Paperwork, eligibility verification, and logistics with installers are all factors to take into account. If you’re interested in making things easier on yourself, reach out to us today. We can assist with quotes and forms and walk you through each step so you don’t miss the available financial assistance.

Heat Pump Installation in Scotland

Thermal imaging of radiator connected to air source heat pump in Scotland

It is a big investment to install an air source heat pump in Scotland; however, when installed correctly, it can turn your home into a warmer, more energy-efficient property. Knowing everything from the survey to the commissioning means you’ll feel confident and ready to sail this summer. Here’s a guide to what installation is generally like, step by step:

Step 1: Property Survey

Every installation begins with a full property inspection. A professional installer will come to your home and carry out an assessment, looking at the size of your property, levels of insulation, your present heating system, and the style of radiators or underfloor heating. This is key to finding the proper heat pump size and style for you. An appropriately sized system will not only provide comfortable temperatures but will be efficient and have lower operating costs as well.

This visit will also be an opportunity for your installer to assess the location of the external unit during the survey. Ideally, the outdoor unit should be on an installer’s or manufacturer’s stand in a well-ventilated position, not near walls or fences, to minimise noise impact on you and your neighbours. Some installation companies may employ thermal imaging or energy modelling to estimate the system’s performance in your home.

Step 2: System Design

After the survey, the installer designs a system that is tailored to your home. This design specifies the model of the heat pump and its capacity, how it will be connected to your radiators, underfloor heating or hot water cylinder, and the path of the piping and cabling. The system can also add smart controls or zoning to enhance energy savings.

Your system is efficient and cost-effective to run, generating warmth when you need it with a reliable design that fully complies with possible grant-assisted installations. It also makes it easier to install, eliminating surprises and delays.

Step 3: Paperwork & Permissions

Some paperwork is required before the installation starts. This is something that your installer should generally handle, and that includes:

  • Grant applications: a list of common grants includes the Home Energy Scotland Heat Pump Grant and various local schemes.
  • You will meet building regulations compliance. The most important reason for your system to meet building regulations compliance is energy efficiency and safety.
  • Planning permission is required, although this is not generally needed for domestic installations in Scotland.

When you have a professional dealing with these factors of change, you can appreciate the benefits of your new system instead of the seemingly endless bureaucratic formalities.

Step 4: Installation

The installation itself typically requires 2-5 days, depending on the size/complexity of the property. The outdoor unit is first positioned on brackets or a concrete slab. Connections inside the heat pump to the radiators, underfloor heating and the hot water cylinder are then installed. Pipes are frequently concealed in the walls or new floors for a polished result.

The installer will verify on install that your system will be compatible with your home’s household electric supply, and if not, may upgrade some circuits or install a dedicated fuse. All things have been considered to guarantee the flow efficiency, safety and durability.

Step 5: Commissioning & Handover

Once fitted, the heat pump is commissioned. That means it is tested to make sure it is heating your home appropriately, the controls are functioning as they should, and the system is running as efficiently as possible. Your installer will instruct you on the operation of the device, how to control temperatures and how to minimise your use of energy.

Lifetime monitoring is available from many installers, including Aventus Eco. This service watches your machine’s performance remotely, warns you of any looming problems and helps you keep your machine running efficiently over time. It’s a smart way to safeguard your investment, and your heat pump will continue to save you money for many years.

Choosing the Right Installer

It is essential to choose a trusted heat pump supplier in Scotland. Seek out certified professionals with great reviews, demonstrated experience, and a full-service mentality. An approved installer takes care of everything: survey, design, paperwork, installation, commissioning, and continued monitoring.

You also get a professional team to ensure that your system qualifies for all the applicable grants, so you don’t leave a dime of funding on the table. They can recommend placement of the radiators, radiator upgrades, and custom energy-saving methods for your home.

Our Heat Pump Installation Service Across Central Scotland

Close up of air source heat pump unit in Scotland with connected pipework

This guide is written from what we do every week. We are Aventus Eco: MCS certified, Heat Geek trained, installing air source heat pumps across the central belt. Most of our work sits in Glasgow and Edinburgh, with regular installs in Stirling, Falkirk, Fife, Paisley and the towns between.

How a Typical Installation Runs

A typical project runs survey, design, paperwork, then a two to five day install, with the quote you need for your Home Energy Scotland grant application. Expect some drilling and pipework on install days; a good crew keeps the water off for hours, not days, and leaves the system commissioned and explained before they go.

Heating rarely travels alone: we also design solar battery storage, full heat pump and solar packages, and systems for new builds, so the whole house is engineered as one.

Servicing and Repairs

If you want servicing rather than a new system, our servicing and repair team covers the same territory.

Planning Permission & Regulations in Scotland

Indoor heat pump control system installed in Scotland by Aventus Eco

If you are considering having an air source heat pump installed in Scotland, it is essential to know the requirements regarding planning permission. In a lot of cases, these kinds of heat pumps can be installed under permitted development rights, so you don’t require formal planning permission to get one, but there are exceptions.

When You Don’t Need Planning Permission

The majority of air source heat pumps for domestic properties are classed as permitted development, provided that:

  • The unit is mounted to a wall or a roof that doesn’t face a street.
  • It does not rise more than a metre above the ground.
  • It is at least 1 metre from any property boundary.
  • Each property will only have one heat pump installed.

These conditions mean that for the majority of homes, you can install a heat pump without submitting a planning application. However, it’s always a good idea to check with your local council first to confirm that your property meets all the requirements.

When Planning Permission Is Required

You may require planning permission in some cases, for example

  • Listed buildings: Any alterations that would affect the outside of a listed building usually need consent. The installation of a heat pump is, for example, to be regarded as a “material alteration”, and a confirmation from the municipality’s building permitting authority is needed.
  • Conservation areas: Properties in conservation areas may involve extra controls to retain the neighbourhood’s character.
  • Several units or large installations: A combination of several heat pumps or a very large unit may go beyond permitted development allowances.
  • In plain view from a public road: Depending on where the heat pump is placed, if it is in a position that is clearly visible from the street, then you may need to get permission.

Key Considerations

Even if your installation is allowed under permitted development, there are still things you need to do:

  • Hire a qualified installer with knowledge of Scottish building standards.
  • Make sure the unit is installed so that noise levels and appearance are as minimal as possible.
  • Document the installation and compliance for possible future transactions or inspections of the property.

By adhering to the rules and working with a qualified installer, you can also prevent delays or enforcement issues and ensure your heat pump is installed smoothly and legally.

Do you need help establishing if your property is subject to permitted development or needs planning permission? Feel free to get in touch for a £0 consultation, and we’ll walk you through it.

Air Source Heat Pump Comparisons

Selecting the correct heating system can be daunting when you live in Scotland. With the likes of gas boilers, oil boilers, electric radiators, and even ground source heat pump (GSHP) options, you must have an idea about how each one operates. Let’s compare air source heat pumps (air source heat pumps) to these alternatives so you can get an idea of what is going to work best for your home.

Air Source Heat Pump vs Gas Boiler

While gas boilers have been ubiquitous in Scottish households for decades, there are concerns about their green credentials. They’re known, dependable and relatively cheap to install. But there are some important differences compared to an air source heat pump:

  • Efficiency: Gas boiler efficiency averages around 90-95%, though this number can be higher if the boiler is co-heating. Air-source heat pumps, on the other hand, can show a 300–400% efficiency, providing up to four units of heat for every unit of electricity used. And this greater efficiency simply means less on our gas bill and less CO2 in the air.
  • Running Costs: Although electricity is usually more expensive per unit compared to gas, air source heat pumps typically have lower lifetime running costs, as they generate more energy using electricity rather than gas. A well-designed air source heat pump will provide enough to stay warm through winter, even here in Scotland, at a fraction of the cost of older natural gas systems.
  • Maintenance: Gas boilers need yearly maintenance and safety checks. Heat pumps, too, can use a tune-up, but they tend to have fewer moving parts that can wear out, so there are fewer breakdowns over time.
  • Carbon Footprint: Installing an air source heat pump will make your home greener, too. As gas boilers burn fossil fuels, they contribute to climate change, while heat pumps use renewable energy extracted from the air.
  • Space & Noise: Gas boilers are small and very quiet in the home, while the outdoor unit of an air source heat pump requires some space outside. They are relatively quiet these days, no louder than a refrigerator in many cases, though the location still may make a difference in avoiding an unwanted noise nuisance.

Air Source Heat Pump vs Oil Boiler

Many rural Scottish homes are still using oil boilers, particularly those without a mains gas connection. Here’s how air source heat pumps stack up:

  • Fuel Cost & Availability: Oil prices fluctuate, and the logistics involving delivery are a pain. With a heat pump, there’s no need to rely on fuel deliveries; heating comes in the form of a consistent temperature regardless of outside fuel supply availability.
  • Efficiency & Running Costs: Oil boilers work based on up to 90% inefficiency, whereas air source heat pumps can provide three to four times more heat for the same amount of electricity. This could add up to significant savings over time, particularly if your home is well-insulated.
  • Environmental Impact: Oil boilers are more carbon-intensive than gas; heating pumps are much cleaner, mainly when used in combination with green electricity. If you’re a homeowner who wants to do a little to fight climate change, an air source heat pump is a slam-dunk.
  • Maintenance & Lifespan: Oil boilers need routine checks of the tank and connections and an annual test of the oil itself. Heat pumps have to be maintained as well, but with fewer parts exposed to combustion, they generally last longer and with fewer problems.

Air Source Heat Pump vs Electric Radiators

Electric radiators can easily be fitted and are commonly used for temporary or additional heating. But they function quite differently from air source heat pumps:

  • Efficiency: Electric radiators are very efficient and convert 100% of the electricity used into heat, but they can be costly to run as they produce all of their heat using electricity. Air-to-air heat pumps move heat, rather than create it, providing roughly 3-4 times more heat energy per unit of electricity consumed.
  • Running Costs: Running electric radiators around the clock through a Scottish winter is very expensive. Heat pumps also deliver the same amount of warmth at a fraction of the cost, so you get more of those savings more of the time.
  • Control & Comfort: Today’s air source heat pumps combine with intelligent controls, thermostats and zoning systems to ensure sane temperature control. While electric radiators can have their own controls, few are as upscale or efficient as those that work with whole-home heating.
  • Space & Installation: Electric radiators are straightforward to install but take up wall space and do not supply hot water. Air source pumps not only heat your home but also your hot water from the same unit, meaning less clutter and a more efficient system.

Air Source vs Ground Source Heat Pump

Ground source heat pumps (GSHPs) are a further low-carbon choice. They draw heat from the ground, where temperatures are more consistent than the air, and can be more efficient in frigid weather.

  • Installation Difficulty: GSHPs can be complex with ground breaking and laying beneath the ground pipes; therefore, they are more expensive and intrusive. This is not appropriate for every property, especially smaller gardens or urban plots.
  • Efficiency: GSHPs are more efficient than ASHPs in extreme cold, as the ground is warmer than the air in winter. Modern air source heat pumps, however, are designed to perform in Scottish winters and should deliver dependable heating down to -15°C or (sometimes) lower.

Aventus Eco Note: Although ground source heat pumps may well be efficient, currently, Aventus Eco does not have GDHPs available. We are not focused on air source systems, which are more widely applicable, easier to install and fit most homes in Scotland.

Ground source heat pumps (GSHPs) are a further low-carbon choice. They draw heat from the ground, where temperatures are more consistent than the air, and can be more efficient in frigid weather.

Key Takeaways

  • Cost: Air source heat pump installation prices are higher than those of electric radiators and comparable to gas or oil boilers, but grants and funding can cover some of the costs. Operating costs are typically lower than those of electric or oil systems.
  • Efficiency & Carbon: Air source heat pumps provide excellent efficiency and significantly reduce carbon emissions compared to fossil fuel systems.
  • Maintenance: The air source heat pump needs maintenance less frequently than an oil or gas boiler and has long-term monitoring options available.
  • Comfort & Integration: New heat pumps give you the compatibility for heating your whole home and your hot water, smart controls and zoning.

All in all, air source heat pumps are a great contender for the Scottish homeowner looking to shrink their carbon footprint, slash some money off those energy bills and guarantee themselves a reliable heating system even in the coldest of Scottish winters. GSHPs have their uses, but air source heat pumps are generally easier to fit, more versatile and benefit from full grants and funding.

Case Study: Real Heat Pump Installation in Scotland

Air source heat pump installation in Scotland with professional installers

So, to demonstrate the principles of how an air source heat pump works in a real Scottish house, let’s take, for example, one of Aventus Eco’s recent projects. This is a case study on the advantages, savings and customer hardship of upgrading to a new heating system.

Before Installation

The client, a family who live in a semi-detached house near Edinburgh, had an old oil boiler. It was expensive to heat the water, and the hot water didn’t always work, particularly as the winter wore on. The place was also poorly insulated, which rendered the current system inefficient. The family desired a low-carbon, reliable alternative that would lower bills and make the home more comfortable throughout the year.

The Installation

Following a full property survey and system design, Aventus Eco fitted a high-efficiency air source heat pump. The project included:

  • Replacing radiators to accommodate low-temperature heating.
  • Locating the outdoor unit sufficiently far from the building so as not to cause noise and visual discomfort.
  • Hot water system complete equipment connection and client’s hot water cylinder integration.
  • Complete life monitoring to identify system efficiency and flag any problems early.

The installation took just four days to complete, and with no disruption to the family.

After Installation

The results were immediate. The house was invariably warm, and there were much lower energy bills for the family to pay. The very low noise of the outdoor unit ensured that it did not disrupt the garden.

The client commented:

Social Proof & Credibility

This project is a great example of how Aventus Eco delivers high-quality air source heat pump installations in Scotland. With careful planning, professional installation, and ongoing monitoring, homeowners can enjoy reliable heating, lower energy costs, and a system that just works.

Pros of Air Source Heat Pumps in Scotland

  1. Air Source Heat Pumps are Extremely Efficient: They can generate 3-4 units of heat for every unit of electricity they consume. This translates to lower running costs for direct electric heating and, in many cases, for oil or gas heating.
  2. Carbon Reduction: By switching from fossil fuels to a heat pump, your home’s carbon footprint is significantly reduced. In Scotland, which is generating more and more of its electricity from renewable sources, it’s an air source heat pump that best helps to reduce emissions.
  3. Central Heating & Hot Water in One System: Electric radiators are only for heating, not providing hot water, whereas an air source heat pump can also supply you with hot water. This streamlines your home’s energy systems and eliminates the need for separate hot water heating.
  4. Smart Thermostats & Controls: Often found with advanced heat pumps, smart devices give you control of your heating through scheduling or zoning, while increasing home comfort and energy efficiency.
  5. Grants & Funding: You can get help from both the Scottish Government and energy suppliers, and this can bring down the cost upfront, making air source heat pumps a more affordable prospect!

Cons of Air Source Heat Pumps

  1. Initial Cost: Installation costs are also more expensive than gas boilers or electric radiators, with prices between £8,000 and £15,000. Grants can defray some of this, but it remains a serious investment.
  2. Running Costs: While cost-effective, air source heat pumps are powered by electricity, which has a higher per-unit cost compared to gas. Costs are lower than those of electric radiators or oil, but the amount will depend on your type of electricity tariff and your home’s efficiency.
  3. Property Suitability: Heat pumps are most effective in a well-insulated property with underfloor heating or larger radiators. It may be necessary to upgrade older homes with poor insulation to realise the full benefits.
  4. Maintenance & Life Expectancy: Air source heat pumps are relatively maintenance-free but should have a yearly service to ensure no loss of performance. Continuous monitoring, such as that offered with Aventus Eco, can give early warning signs.
  5. Space for Outdoor Unit: Requires space for the outdoor unit with good airflow and low noise. The modern units are tranquil, but still, it depends on where they are installed, e.g. in a flat or terrace house.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are heat pumps noisy?

Not really. A modern air source unit runs at roughly 40 to 50 dB from a metre away, about the hum of a fridge, and permitted development rules cap noise at 42 dB at the nearest neighbouring window. Siting and mounting decide most of it, which is why both get checked at the survey before anything is ordered.

Do you need radiators with a heat pump?

Yes, or underfloor heating. Heat pumps perform better with low-temperature heating, so you may have to purchase larger radiators or have existing ones replaced.

Are heat pumps expensive to run in Scotland?

No! They are less expensive to operate than electric radiators and frequently cheaper than oil systems. They will vary depending on electricity rates, home insulation and the size of the system.

How long does it take to pay back the installation?

If you use grants and energy savings, payback is usually about 12-15 years (choose between a faster or slower payback, depending on the climate of your house and how often you use it). After that, the energy savings keep coming for many years.

Do they work in cold weather?

Yes. Modern air source heat pumps function efficiently down to -15°C, making them suitable for Scottish winters. Proper sizing ensures performance even in colder areas.

Can you integrate with existing heating systems?

Yes. Most heat pumps operate in conjunction with an existing boiler in a hybrid mode, which allows flexibility and a stepwise transition to renewable heating.

What about lifespan?

An average air source heat pump can last up to 20 years if properly maintained. Outdoor units are usually replaced in advance, but their overall life expectancy is the same as that of a conventional boiler.

Bottom Line: Are Air Source Heat Pumps Worth It?

Air source heat pumps are still worth the investment in Scotland for the majority of homeowners if your property is suitable and a qualified professional carries out the installation. They provide long-term energy savings, reduced carbon emissions and a reliable heating source, mainly when used with sound insulation and well-specified radiators or underfloor heating.

Cost-wise, there are two big things to consider: the upfront installation and whether the house can support low-temperature systems. Grants and funding help defray that initial cost, and lifetime monitoring ensures continued effectiveness.

Put simply, if you want to save money on your energy bills, lower your carbon footprint and future-proof your heating system, an air source heat pump really is a smart move.

Aventus installed an ASHP heating system for us in a 1950s house in Newton Mearns. Initially we contacted them to help us future proof our home as we were planning some retrofit works. They carried out the preparatory pipework during the build & were very good at working around our timeline and liaising with the builders. Following this we decided to see it through and had the new heat pump installed towards the end of the building works. During the installation, the team were all very polite and helpful. We had the majority of pipework replaced with copper alongside 4 new radiators & a cylinder installation which was all carried out to a high standard. The team were patient with our specific requests. We are delighted with the dark grey Panasonic unit & appreciated the fact the unit is not over specified which means that it sits neatly underneath our new windows. There were various post install issues however these were resolved with a professional attitude. So far we have found the house to be very cosy with exceptionally hot water which exceeds our expectations. Time will tell over the winter how efficient it is given the age of the house, however we feel reassured having Aventus by our side and would not hesitate to recommend them to others.

We wanted to retrofit our home to improve energy efficiency, change to an air source heat pump (ASHP) and add solar panels and a battery. Aventus Eco was recommended by a Retrofit Consultancy. Sean clearly explained and planned out the processes for our ASHP. We really felt that he was interested to make it work well for us. Installation was smooth. The team was well coordinated and communicated well during the process. They completed the work to a very high standard and minimised any disruption to our home. We were so impressed with the ASHP fitting that we quickly followed this up with Aventus Eco planning and installing our solar panels and battery. We would highly recommend Sean and the Aventus Eco team.

Changing from gas central heating to renewables isn’t simple but, having asked four companies to quote to convert our system, Sean stood out as someone who cared about getting the design right, optimising it for our house while clearly explaining how and why. He helped us understand how heat pumps, solar panels and batteries all work together and gave us confidence that the conversion would be possible and relatively simple. The Anvetus installation team were brilliant - polite and efficient with a can-do attitude to problem solving. They cared about our property, checking in with us as they worked and clearing up as much as possible each day. Everything felt planned and coordinated and a heat pump, new hot water tank and system, 10 solar panels and a battery were installed and up and running in a week, despite some unexpected challenges along the way. The whole team went out of their way to make this a smooth experience, from initial visit to final handover paperwork. We would highly recommend Sean and Aventus Eco.

Our household was going through the Home Energy Scotland grant and loan scheme as we qualified for a heat pump. Sean came recommended by an insulation company and I’m glad that I reached out. Despite being very busy, Sean was keen to get a solution for us, his knowledge and work ethic came across immediately so we were happy to have Aventus take on the work. Meeting, survey, work scheduled, and completed to a very high standard. We’re very happy with our heat pump system as well as the ongoing support from Sean.

Sean and the team at Aventus Eco did a fantastic job installing our air source heat pump. They were really friendly, proactive and efficient throughout the whole process. After trying to find a suitable air source heat pump installer for a number of years, Sean filled us with confidence from the moment we met him. He was the first person who properly reassured us about the design, the suitability of the system and the long-term cost benefits. The installation itself was carried out with real care and professionalism. The team put everything back in place afterwards and left the house as though they had never been there. Since the instal, the house now constantly feels like it is at a comfortable temperature, and the amount of energy we use on a daily basis compared to our old electric boiler has been reduced. We are looking forward to seeing how this continues in the colder months. We would happily recommend Aventus Eco and Sean to anyone considering an air source heat pump.

Sean and the team at Aventus Eco provided exceptional support when we needed it most. Our heat pump had been incorrectly installed by another company that has since gone into liquidation, leaving us with nearly three years of no heating, ongoing faults, and constant leaks. Aventus Eco truly saved the day. Sean quickly identified the issues that had caused continuous problems for years and resolved them properly. We finally have warmth in our home again, along with peace of mind and renewed hope. The service has been first class throughout, with excellent ongoing support. I cannot recommend Sean and Aventus Eco highly enough and would like to thank them for their professionalism, expertise, and commitment to doing things right.

You would have to look far and wide to find a Company as helpful as Aventus Eco . Sean from Aventus was able to face time my dad and talk him through concerns about how his air source heat pump was performing during cold weather . We managed to resolve the issues with Sean's patient help and expert knowledge. Many thanks again to a genuine guy , would highly recommend.

Outstanding Service from Aventus Eco Ltd – Highly Recommended! I had been struggling with unusually high electricity consumption—around 50 kWh per day—due to my air source heat pump system. Despite reaching out to multiple companies, including the original installer, no one was willing to help or even respond. That’s when I contacted Sean from Aventus Eco Ltd, and I’m so glad I did. Sean promptly visited my home, conducted a thorough evaluation of all relevant factors, and successfully identified the root cause of the issue. He didn’t stop there—he also provided a detailed report that I could share with the installer and even offered to assist further in resolving the problem. Sean’s professionalism, technical expertise, and willingness to go the extra mile truly set him apart. He is an absolute superstar, and I can’t recommend Aventus Eco Ltd highly enough for anyone facing similar challenges.

Exactly as the process should be – right from start to finish Aventus Eco fitted solar panels, battery storage and an air-source heat pump, and the whole experience has been great. There was no hard sell from these guys, just lots of advice from people who clearly care about what they do, their business and their reputation. They took the time to get the design right for my home, including properly working out our power use and heat loss and sizing everything accordingly. The solar panels were a no brainer, but Aventus suggested right sizing the solar panels and adding battery storage. Home energy when the sun’s not shining – brilliant. It’s working flawlessly. The heat pump means I’m no longer dependent on global oil and I’ve cut my carbon footprint. Heat pumps get a lot of bad press, often due to hard-sell companies pushing numbers rather than doing the job properly. The difference here is the care Aventus put in, and the work they have done with Heat Geek and their accreditation process (check their Youtube videos). That was the deciding factor. None of the other companies I spoke to had it. It gave me real confidence everything would be set up properly — and it shows. Originally, I wanted to keep the oil boiler “just in case”. I’m glad I took the leap to ditch it and trust the Aventus design. The house is comfortable and warm throughout. Neat install, great communication, and they made the grant process easy. Aventus Eco combine technical know-how with genuine customer care, and I’d happily recommend them. Thanks. Genuinely.

Outstanding service, difficult decision to make to change to air source heat pump especially give the level of misinformation. Sean/Aventus Eco were outstanding in helping me explore and decide that this was right solution. Additionally it involved full house re-plumb because of problems with the old system, This was handled sensitively and professionally by all the members of the team with Sean setting very high expectations for everyone. I had hesitated because of the level of disruption but in fact it all went very smoothly. Thank you Sean/Aventis Eco and your team. I have no hesitation in fully recommending Sean and Aventus Eco Ltd.

After calling many companies and having an electrician come and wrongly replace our fit meter Sean could not have been more helpful. He took the time to help, explained everything so well despite it being a small job. He arranged for an electrican to come and checked in afterwards. I couldn't rate him higher, we are very grateful for his help.

Aventus Eco installed solar panels and a battery and all went like clockwork. Now running virtually all day on a few £ of off peak electricity (Octopus) and the rest is solar feeding into the battery. Very pleased with the result and the thorough job done by Aventus Eco.

We initially had Sean over to provide a quote, and as we didn’t know much about heat pumps, he explained everything clearly and in a way we could easily understand. He emphasized the importance of proper heat loss calculations for our property, which helped us determine which existing radiators we could keep. Sean also walked us through how the system would operate once installed and shared tips on how to get the best efficiency from it. When the team came to install the system, the entire process was incredibly streamlined and completed in just three days. The guys made sure to cover all our carpets and left the place spotless. I can honestly say Sean and his team were fantastic—our heat pump is now up and running, and even on the coldest days, our energy usage is nearly half compared to gas. Although we’ve needed to tweak a few settings, Sean took the time to show us exactly how to adjust everything. I would highly recommend him and his team to anyone. In fact, we’ve already referred him to our neighbors, and he’s now working on their system too. Thanks again, Sean and team

We had an excellent experience with Sean and his team at Aventus Eco. They recently installed our air source heat pump and hot water system, and Sean was hands-on throughout the entire process. What really stood out was the additional guidance Sean provided about how we could improve our home’s insulation and reduce drafts. He explained how making these simple DIY improvements would help lower the heat loss in our home, ultimately reducing our energy bills in the long run. Sean’s approach was practical and cost-conscious, giving us great tips for upgrades that we could do ourselves to make the system even more efficient. The level of detail and care he put into both the installation and the advice was impressive. It’s clear that Aventus Eco is dedicated to not just installing systems, but making sure they perform at their best for the customer. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome and would definitely recommend Aventus Eco to anyone looking for a reliable, knowledgeable, and customer-focused company.
