Without a battery, sizing walks a tightrope: generate much beyond your daytime usage and the surplus exports at 12p instead of offsetting 25p imports, so oversizing has soft returns. A battery removes the tightrope. Surplus now charges the battery for evening use, every stored kilowatt-hour is worth roughly double an exported one, and the economics reward a bigger array than the no-battery calculation would justify.
